Crushed rocks and flowers! The wine is overtly floral, but with serious mineral qualities. This is a big, rich and textural Gewürtztraminer. Exotic asian spice and tropical fruit dominate the palate. (Ryan Woodhouse, Aussie / NZ Specialist) Winemaker's Notes: "This wine is made soley from 14 rows of vines in the original block planted in 1979. All fruit is hand picked, hand sorted. The wine is of medium sweetness at 30 g/l or 3% residual sugar. Intensely perfumed of ripe oranges, clove, lychee and rose petals."

An absolutely stunning Gerwurtztraminer! Classic aromatics and incredible palate delivery of white flowers, peaches, apricot, lychee and rose with well-balanced, bright acid makes this new Direct Import a no-brainer for Gerwutz lovers everywhere! Not at all sappy or clying, but fresh & clean in the finish. The complexity you get for the price puts it on the very top of my Gerwurtz list! Get it while you can- before I sell it to every customer in Redwood City!

Gewurztraminer

- Thought to have originated in the city of Tramin in Italy's Alto Adige, Gewürztraminer is actually a pink-skinned incarnation of the Traminer varietal, and also the most widely planted variation. Known for its heady perfume redolent of rose petals and spice and tropical lychee flavor, its fuller body and moderate acidity, it can be made in a variety of styles ranging from completely dry to sweet late harvest wines. The best representations of the grape are grown in Austria and France's Alsace, though it's being made in smaller quantities in Eastern Europe, Italy, the Pacific Northwest, California, New Zealand and Australia.

- New Zealand is an extremely diverse wine-growing nation. The long history of producing wine started in the 1830s with wineries such as Mission Estate (1850) and Te Mata Estate (1896) still producing wine today. The two islands hold a multitude of different growing climates ranging from warmer areas such as Hawke’s Bay to very cool regions such as Waitaki, and Awatere. Most regions are defined as Maritime with the exception being Central Otago that has a moderate Continental climate with the high elevation creating dramatic diurnal swings in temperature.
