Devaux Grand Réserve Brut Champagne
Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar
Light gold. Musky aromas of pear skin, dried peach and toasted grain, with a spicy overtone. A gently smoky midweight that offers pliant orchard fruit and melon flavors, along with hints of mace and honeysuckle. Finishes clean and bright, with very good cling and lingering florality.
Champagne Devaux was founded in 1846 and has been owned by the growers who supply it since 1986. The Grand Reserve is composed of 2/3 Pinot Noir and 1/3 Chardonnay aged for 3 years on the lees and blended with 20% reserve wines. It is dosed at less than 10 grams per liter of sugar. This is clean, expressive creamy Champagne that makes a nice aperitif. (Gary Westby, K&L Champagne Buyer)
