2010 Ermita de Nieve Verdejo Rueda

SKU #1088311

What a delicious Verdejo, made in a unique style for this grape variety. While the Verdejo grape is known for its intense tropical and melon-like flavors, this particular bottling comes from vineyards closer towards Segovia, whose terroir yields a wine that is a bit more reserved, with fresh grapefruit flavors and a hint of melon rind. A very mineral style of Verdejo, from vines ranging in age from 60 years to 100 years. They are franc pied (ungrafted) vines. The resulting wine is very bright, expressive and mineral--a terrific value Verdejo that drinks much more seriously than you might expect.

This Spanish white is the best I’ve tasted for the money in a long time, sure to offer refreshment through the spring/summer season and beyond. The old vine verdejo fruit (franc pied, 60-100 yr old vines) yields very bright, intense pink grapefruit flavor and impressive length on the finish. For those looking for gulpable whites with minerality and complexity beyond their price, this is a wine to purchase by the case.
