A great follow-up to the 2009, which was lauded by the Wall Street Journal, which called it "one of those rare wine finds that immediately excites with its explosive fruit, sheer drinkability and refinement." Graciano is a difficult to grow grape indigenous to the Rioja region. It adds color, intensely flavored fruit and acidity to the Rioja blend. Bottled here as a monovarietal, the 2010 Zorzal smells like wild strawberries and sweet basil, while the palate is tart and juicy, with anise, berry and meaty flavors, a hint of spice and savory green herbs characteristic of the grape. Delicious with pasta, cured meats or something off the grill.
