The 2011 Elsa Bianchi Malbec comes from old vines and the quality of the vineyard shows. It has a crisp blackberry and raspberry leaf nose that is clean, brusque and fresh, while the palate offers chunky red berry fruit that is simple and mouthfilling. This is an easy drinking but thoughtfully made Malbec at a basement price. Returning 20 minutes later and tasting it blind, it actually opens beautifully. This is great value. Drink now.
*Best Buy* This has fresh berry and flower aromas that lead to a healthy-feeling palate, which is full of cherry, boysenberry and blackberry flavors. Mildly toasty and chocolaty on the finish. (12/ 2012)
Single vineyard Malbec for a song! The Elsa Malbec comes from Valentin Bianchi's Doña Elsa estate in the cool reaches of San Rafael, Mendoza. With just a kiss of French oak, the rich fruit dominates this easy-drinking red, which has barely-there tannins. Invoke your inner-Argentine and drink this alongside grilled flank steak with a garlicky chimichurri.
