Pale yellow. Intense aromas of pear skin, fig, anise, iodine and smoky herbs. Rich, silky and spicy, offering expansive orchard and citrus fruit pith flavors and intense mineral and floral notes. Closes dry and firm, with excellent clarity and length, leaving mineral and dried pear notes behind. This structured wine, which was made from yields of less than two tons per acre according to Davis, should reward at least another five years of aging. (5/ 2012)
Porter Creek Wines is a family-owned vineyard and winery located alongside Porter Creek, one of the Russian River's major tributaries. To showcase their unique hillside terroir, this father and son team focuses on Rhone and Burgundian varietals, which they farm organically to produce primarily vineyard-designated wines. Sourced from neighboring "George's Hill" vineyard, a site that is farmed organically and sustainiably, Porter Creek's 2010 "Old Vine" Russian River Chardonnay is crisp and Burgundian in style, with a nose that leads with lemon, green apple, and minerals. The palate is precise and focused, medium-bodied, with leesy flavors accented by lemony citrus highlights and a nice savory component. It shows a fine balance of fruit and acidity, and a cleansing finish. This is an excellent Chardonnay to have with food.
