2010 Skylark "Orsi Vineyard" Mendocino County Pinot Blanc

A collaboration between the wine directors at Boulevard Restaurant in San Francisco, Skylark Wine Company began with a single barrel of Syrah in 2002. With ensuing success they have expanded to produce a range of wines from local Northern California sites that are styled to be approachable and food-friendly while showing a sense of origin. Enter the 2010 Skylark "Orsi Vineyard" Pinot Blanc. Sourced from old Pinot Blanc vines from a site just outside of Hopland in Mendocino County, this clean, refreshing white is all about pure fruit flavors and balanced acidity in a style that has more in common with the Pinot Blancs of Alsace than typically found in warmer climates. The long and cool 2010 vintage made it possible for the full development of aroma and flavor from these special old vines, while preserving high natural acidity in the fruit. This lovely Pinot Blanc exhibits delicate pear, apple, and white flower aromas and flavors, with leesey undertones and a hint of grapefruit. It is round and full in the mouth, fanning outward along the palate with focused acidity towards a dry, chrystalline finish. It is delicious on its own, but really shows well with food, especially creamy or exotically spiced dishes, and has the body to complement fish and white meats.
