Dense and firm, this gutsy red shows a nice flex behind the tannins, with rich flavors of dark berry, dark chocolate, cedar and melted black licorice. The signature minty trait presents itself for now as a bay leaf and black tea aroma. Drink now through 2028. (6/ 2012)
Heitz Cellars' Martha's Vineyard is a benchmark Napa Valley Cabernet, a "hallowed vineyard as well as one of Napa Valley’s great historic terroirs," according to Robert Parker. Parker has also written that 2007 is "has turned out to be the greatest vintage since 2001 or 2002 for the Bordeaux varietals in Napa, although 2005 is very close in quality, if very different in style. The wines display extraordinary fragrance and gorgeously seamless personalities, with sweet noble tannins as well as terrific concentration and length. It is a very exciting vintage, with more alcohol than 2005, but slightly less alcohol than 2002 or 2001." The 2007 Heitz Cellar Martha's Vineyard Cabernet is destined to be a classic. Expect tell-tale Martha's menthol and cassis aromas and flavors, with the intense flavor concentration and ripeness from the vintage, and big tannins. Like all Martha's from top vintages, this is one for the cellar.
