2000 Haut Ferrand, Pomerol

Plush, silky, soft and ethereal in nature, this wine really sneaks up on you. The palate is caressing with blueberry fruit, cedar, smoke and an iron tinged minerality on the tannin free finish. Great for drinking tonight.

Owned by the Gasparoux family, who also own the more well-known Chateau Ferrand. Not a second wine but, since 1970, a separate property assembled from various parcels situated around the church of Pomerol. 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc. Well-priced, traditionally-styled Pomerol. No garagiste excesses of overripe fruit or new oak here. Ripe red fruits of red currant and plum followed by lovely, savory notes of cedar and truffle. Wonderful weight – rich, round, and mouthfilling. Elegant and refined with great presence. The perfect pairing for grilled duck breast. Already showing the strength of this 2000 vintage, this wine will continue to improve for many years to come. Drink or hold.

Really drinking well right now, but you know it's going to last another 5 to 10 years easy! I wish we had more great Right Bank deals like this to offer because we get a little Cab-centric at K&L. Experience the red fruit, fine tannins, and incredible depth from the 2000 Ferrand and try to tell me you don't like Merlot!

A delicious, fruity, and powerful (but not overpowering) Pomerol. I happen to be a big fan of cabernet franc, and the 20% in this wine shows. The wine was mild when opened, but given 1.5-2 hours to breathe, and this wine really shines. The flavor sits all over the mouth, with ripe fruit everywhere. Had this on the same night as some 2004 ridge, and the ridge could not hold a candle to it. It seemed chalky compared to the pomerol. A wonderful buy and great year and great wine to boot!
