Striking acidity adds verve to the ripe blackberry and sour cherry flavors. The medium-bodied palate is tangy, but hints of rose petal and green herb give it softness. (12/ 2012)
100% Terlan, from the Red Karst (Terra Rossa) soils of the northwestern part of Croatia's Istrian peninsula, made by master winemaker Moreno Coronica. As to be expected, this Terlan is inky dark in the glass with an opacity that is almost suggestive of syrup, but you will be surprised to find that it is light and dry on the palate, with moderate alcohol (12.8% abv) and fresh, balanced acidity. It offers distinctive tart red berry and herbal aromas and flavors (Terlan is also valued for its medicinal properties) around an ferrous mineral backbone. Traditionally paried with hearty Croatian cuisine, this is an ideal compliment with cured meats, stews, and blood sausages.
