Fleury "Cuveé Robert Fleury" Brut Champagne (Previously $50)

SKU #1087202

This new batch on non-vintage Robert Fleury was at first destined to be 2001 vintage, and is exclusively from that harvest, making this five years older than the last batch we sold. Mr. Fleury decided not to put the vintage date on it and instead sold it for the non-vintage price because he did not think it was capable of long term (30+ year!) ageing. The good news is that this bottle is fabulous now at over 10 years on the lees and should keep just fine for its 20th birthday. This is a barrel-fermented blend of 18% Chardonnay, 36% Pinot Blanc and 46% Pinot Noir. Pinot Blanc is a real rarity in Champagne, and only exists in a few spots in the Aube and it adds a ton of body to this very rich wine. I found the wine quite golden in color with a deep bouquet of candied nuts and dried fruit. (Gary Westby, K&L Champagne Buyer)

If you're searching for a non-vintage Champagne with generous texture, abundant freshness, depth of character and a distinctive aromatic profile, search no further! This stunning barrel-fermented assemblage of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Blanc....yes, I said Pinot Blanc, an odd wine out in most of Champagne, is a triumphant display of everything one can discover in a fine bottle of bubbly- sparkle, effervescence, layers of brioche, chalk, herbs, toast and lemon, ever-evolving complexity, with a lengthy, lingering finish.

Robert Fleury is a very serious Champagne producer, and we continue to enjoy the benefits of his passion. This wine is driven, richly textured and powerful, however it is not at all over bearing. Notes of core fruits are entwined with sprice from being barrel fermented, the brightness of acidity lifts all of the notes as one, amplifying the flavor profile to wonderful heights. Very very good wine.

I was in the mood for some bubbles last night, so our Champagne buyer, Gary Westby, suggested that I take home the new Fleury "Cuvee Robert Fleury" Brut Champagne as an accompaniment to my cheese and chutney spread. What a fantastic recommendation! The wine is made from one-third each Chardonnay, Pinot Blanc, and Pinot Noir and it's all barrel-fermented. The richness from the wood is fabulous because it never overpowers the crisp apple fruit present on the palate. I was also quite excited to drink a Champagne with actual Pinot Blanc in it, knowing that the grape is legal to use, but no one actually uses it! The depth of flavor in the Cuvee Robert Fleury is simply stunning - delicate bubbles allow for more of the rich, bready notes to stand out when sipping. The apple notes come and go on the finish. I would have expected to easily pay over $100 for a wine this good. Luckily, I don't have to!

This Champagne has wonderful bright and refreshing aromas. In the mouth it is a tasty and a joy to drink. The non vintage Robert Fleury is dry and lively with nice fruit flavors and subtle hints of nuts. There are beautiful small bubbles in the glass. I am really impressed with all of the products that I have tasted from Fleury and this is another winner.

I just tried this one after work tonight (3/17) and it is a definate winner. Wonderful green apple fruit, Asian spices and a very long, very clean finish with bracing acidity and chalkiness. Where the vintage features yellow apples and a bit of caramel, this new arrival ops for restraint and cleanliness. Simply lovely!
