2010 Tajinaste Tinto Tradicional Valle de la Orotava (Tenerife)
Tajinaste was one of the first (maybe the first?) of the many Canary Islands wines to be selected, represented and championed by importer José Pastor. From the island of Tenerife, known for its high elevation vineyards and other worldly landscapde, Tajinaste has once again crafted some of my favorite releases. In my mind, it is arguably the most consistent as well, producing wines that both excite the most critical palates while pleasing those who simply want something delicious to drink. The red is produced from listan negro grapes, and always has a wonderful, somewhat savory dark cherry fruit flavor profile with peppery space and lovely leafy nuances adding freshness and interest to the wine.
