2010 Chateau de Peyrassol "La Croix Rouge" VDP des Portes de la Mediterranée

SKU #1086619

The name of the estate is the first indication of its long, illustrious past. Located in the heart of Provence, near routes traveled by Crusaders in the early Middle Ages, the Commanderie de Peyrassol was founded by the Knights of Templar who were dedicated to protecting the Crusaders en route to, and in, the Holy Land. The first recorded harvest took place in 1256 and winemaking has continued uninterrupted throughout the centuries. This cuvée is crafted specifically for presentation in the United States and is the result of a close collaboration between Rosenthal Wine Merchants and the team at Peyrassol. The blend varies depending on the particular conditions of the vintage but normally is composed of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Syrah in varying proportions. It highlights the fresh wild berry fruits of the region married to a firm minerality that provides structure and discipline to the wine. 13.5% abv

Peyrassol is perhaps amongst the most prestigious, serious and renowned wines, not only in Provence but in France in general. But it is Provence, with its lavender fields, garrigue, Cigales, olives, and its coveted joie de vivre, that it best represents. Rigorously maintained pursuant to organic principles in full respect of the surrounding environment and the delicate balance of the local Mediterranean ecosystem. No synthetic fertilizers or pesticides or fungicides are ever used in the vineyards. The blend varies depending on the particular conditions of the vintage but normally is composed of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Syrah in varying proportions It is structured for sure, but it goes way beyond that, it gives you an intense aromatic nose of garrigue, lavender, dark red berries, olives, thyme, leather, and a touch coffee beans. All these flavors dances on the palate, taking you right back to a time and a place lost in a warm, breezy and calm Provençal afternoon. Pure Provence, an awesome wine indeed!
