I first met Alfredo Maestro Tejero at a wine fair organized by L'anima del Vi, a very good shop in Barcelona's Gracia neighborhood. His wines struck me as being so pure, clean and well made, that I was immediately intrigued, and thrilled to hear that an importer we regularly work with would be bringing the wines in. Maestro Tejero is based in Peņafiel, in Ribera del Duero, but due to his disagreement in what constitutes "typicity" in the region as recognized by the D.O., he operates outside the organization and bottles his wines as table wines. They are much better than mere table wines, though; in fact these are some of the most exciting young wines I've tasted from the region. (Joe Manekin, K&L Spanish buyer)
