2008 Swanson Oakville Merlot
*Editors' Choice" This shows the sun-ripened black cherry, red currant, anise and herb flavors you'd expect in a great Oakville Merlot, coupled with hard, complex tannins. The wine lifts Merlot to true elegance, with flavors that finish dry and spicy. Drink over the next six years.
Following the success of the 2007 vintage of Swanson's Merlot, which received 94 points and high praise from Wine Enthusiast, 2008 saw much lower yields, resulting in a more concentrated wine with ripe tannins, an ultra velvety mouthfeel, and a long finish. With a little Petite Verdot blended in in the tradition of Right Bank Bordeaux, this wine exhibits a nose of black cherry, black plum, warm earth and cocoa, followed by a rich, layered palate accented by hints of sweet herbs and mocha spice. Enjoy now through the next five years.
