*Editors' Choice" This shows the sun-ripened black cherry, red currant, anise and herb flavors you'd expect in a great Oakville Merlot, coupled with hard, complex tannins. The wine lifts Merlot to true elegance, with flavors that finish dry and spicy. Drink over the next six years. (12/ 2012)
Following the success of the 2007 vintage of Swanson's Merlot, which received 94 points and high praise from Wine Enthusiast, 2008 saw much lower yields, resulting in a more concentrated wine with ripe tannins, an ultra velvety mouthfeel, and a long finish. With a little Petite Verdot blended in in the tradition of Right Bank Bordeaux, this wine exhibits a nose of black cherry, black plum, warm earth and cocoa, followed by a rich, layered palate accented by hints of sweet herbs and mocha spice. Enjoy now through the next five years.
