The 2007 Brunello di Montalcino is ripe, flashy and seductive. It shows lovely juiciness and fleshiness to match its generous personality. It is only with the passage of time that the wine's structure begins to emerge. Ripe red fruits, rose petals, spices and licorice wrap around the subtle yet engaging finish. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2027. (4/ 2012)
Moderately saturated medium red. Perfumed aromas of red cherry, redcurrant, spices, earth and dried flowers show a lightly decadent marzipan quality. Silky on entry, then laid-back and delicately perfumed in the middle, with a restrained sweetness to the seamless red fruit and saline mineral flavors. Finishes firmly tannic, long and sophisticated, with captivating lingering perfume. I'd hold this beauty for three or four years before pulling the cork. (7/ 2012)
The estate was acquired by the Di Campalto family in 1996 and run by Stella di Campalto. Since 1992 the vineyards have been tended organically, while a biodynamic regime has been applied since 2002. The estate consists of several small plots that are vinified separately. The first Brunello vintage was 2004. Evolved pale ruby. Lifted. Very closed, hinting at spice. Vibrant acidity. Grainy tannin, and restrained palate. Needs time to knit together. Great tactile sensation without being big. Lingering and captivating. Clearly at the beginning of its evolution. 17.5/20 points.
