2009 La Tour de By, Médoc

Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar
(60% cabernet sauvignon, 35% merlot and 5% petit verdot): Bright ruby-red. Cassis, licorice, menthol and violet on the nose. Supple, smooth and moderately sweet, with a lightly medicinal character to its dark berry, licorice and herb flavors. Harmonious acidity extends the fruit on the slightly warm finish, which dusts the mouth with tannins.

Wine Spectator
This firm red shows plum, tobacco and coffee flavors supported by firm, chewy tannins. A rustic style, but has extract, and just enough acidity to keep it lively. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot. Best from 2013 through 2019. (Web-2012)
K&L Notes
60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Merlot, 5% Petit Verdot. An outstanding wine from a well-situated property north of St-Estèphe, overlooking the Gironde. Tasted August 21, 2011: super delicious. Packed with plummy fruit. Cassis and red berries dominate the nose and palate. Still has great structure for aging. One of the great bargains at K&L in 2012. (Clyde Beffa Jr, K&L Bordeaux buyer) 90 points from Neal Martin's Wine Journal: "Easily the best Tour de By that I have encountered (thus far!), the La Tour de By offers a payload of cedar-infused black fruits on the nose with some Pauillac-like tobacco and graphite aromas slung in for good measure. The palate is medium-bodied with impressive fruit concentration, sturdy tannins and just the right amount of dryness to counterbalance the finish. It may lacks a little length, and it may be comparatively conservative, but it should drink well and offer value for money over the next 8 to 10-years. Tasted April 2012." (07/2012)
