Inky purple. Intensely perfumed aromas of dark berry compote, candied violet and Indian spices, plus a subtle hint of black olive. Smoky, sweet blackberry and boysenberry flavors coat the palate, showing a velvety quality. Closes with very good intensity and spiciness, leaving a floral note behind. (5/ 2012)
* One Star * While tempered in ripeness and crafted in a slightly lighter style, this pert and mannerly Syrah is keenly focused on berries and spice and shows a fine sense of balance throughout. Its integral tannins firm without being obvious and afford it a bit of room for growth, but this is a wine that already invites drinking, and we expect that it will reach its best some two or three years hence.
