Colheitas are barrel aged vintage tawny ports. Generally (though not always) produced in a vintage that is not widely declared by other port houses, they are amongst the prettiest of ports: lighter in color and texture than vintage ports, but with more of a fruit dominated profile than tawnies. They are a wonderful end to a meal, or alternatively a damn fine drink to sip while relaxing on a winter's afternoon or evening. Niepoort is known for their Colheita ports, and this '98 shows a lovely balance of soft, ripe red fruit and spice notes. Try this accompanied by stilton and walnuts for one of the more classic food and wine pairings around. Delicious! (Joe Manekin, K&L Port buyer)
