At long last, we've been able to secure some of Bordeaux' best kept secret--Pauillac de Latour--the "other" wine from the esteemed first growth that has been pretty darn impossible to find anywhere outside Bordeaux until now. The 2007 is a truly fabulous wine, composed of 62% Cabernet Sauvignon, 31% Merlot and 7% Petit Verdot. It's a Baby Latour at a fraction of the price. K&L founder Clyde Beffa Jr. is adding this to his personal cellar, and if you want to follow suit you're best advised to act fast. Although Latour produces a little each vintage, it isn't much (only 15% total production - about 3000 cases) and we got all we could, which still isn't much! According to Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Three strong efforts from Latour include the 2007 Pauillac. A sleeper of the vintage, it is a delicious as well as fairly priced introduction to the brilliant winemaking at this noble estate. Its dense ruby/purple color is accompanied by notes of crushed rocks, red and black fruits, medium body, sweet tannin, and a long finish. It should continue to provide plenty of pleasure over the next 7-10 years.." (04/10) Don't sleep on this sleeper!
