Occasionally I make mistakes..."Unbelievable!" I know you're thinking, but betting on what people might be interested in isn't always an easy task. For example, I tasted the 2010 Fujanera Falanghina at Vinitaly in April 2011, and it was good but it had just been bottled and it really wasn't tasting like what it would become. I waited until the end of last year to bring some in and only then to balance out some pallets. Then whoosh...it was gone, and there were many sad faces among the staff and customers, who loved the stuff. Figuring it would be gone by the time I got around to picking up some more I forgot about it until the producer casually asked if I liked the 2010 Falanghina (a freakishly good vintage for Italian whites, and especially for Puglia), to which I said, "Ee loved it." She said, "Well, I still have some." Silence on my part, and then, "Do you have two pallets?" "Oh yeah," she told me. So you now get to have some! This 100% Falanghina is wonderful, it's fermented in stainless steel, and then kept on its lees for two months before being bottled. The nose is a complex perfume of elderflowers and white peach, with a bit of crushed stone that is couched in a med-full body, and it has a long and decidedly refreshing finish.
