Bright ruby. Higher pitched than the Pavots, displaying intense redcurrant and pomegranate scents and suave floral and spice nuances. Tangy and focused, offering tightly wound red berry flavors and a deeper note of bitter cherry on the back half. The spicy finish features very good tangy cut. Give this a little air. (6/ 2011)
The estate's second wine, the 2008 L’Esprit des Pavots Proprietary Red, is composed of 47% Merlot, 26% Cabernet Franc, 24% Cabernet Sauvignon and the rest Petit Verdot. Also outstanding, it is a more forward effort that is meant to be drunk in its first 10-12 years of life. Notes of chocolaty black cherries, forest, spice and earth are present in this medium to full-bodied, lush 2008. It is ideal for drinking over the next decade. (2/ 2011)
