2002 Daniel Ginsburg "Cuvée Rene Millesime" Brut Champagne

SKU #1082012

This fantastic Champagne was made by De Meric as a tribute to Mr. Rene Collard, and it is one of the greatest Champagnes that we stock at any price. It is now being sold under the Daniel Ginsburg label, named after the founder of De Meric. It is made exclusively from biodynamic Meunier from the village of Crouttes-sur-Marne in the western part of Champagne. It was aged in old, small oak casks before bottling in 2003. The color is a gorgeous light gold, with an amazingly compact and powerful bead. On the nose it is explosively spicy with caramel apple and freshly toasted bread notes heading a long list of adjectives. On the palate it is savory, with a "more Pinot Noir than Pinot Noir" flavor that I found to be one of the most complex I have ever had. This is not shy Champagne, and I think it would be perfect to pair with foie gras or a rich pate on the most special of occasions for the smallest of parties! This wine should age gracefully for as long as you care to hold it... If you can keep your hands off of it! (Gary Westby, K&L Champagne Buyer)

Do you live in a state where foie gras is still legal? If so, the 2002 Daniel Ginsburg Cuvee Rene Millesime Brut is a Champagne that you can't miss. This extraordinarily savory, powerful, single barrel Champagne has both the richness to stand up to, and the acidity to cut through the noblest of pates. I have enjoyed an embarrassingly large number of the 3000 bottles of this that were produced, and no partner for it has been as inspired as foie gras. It is a dynamite match!

Our staff tasted this Champagne just before Christmas in 2011. It is as impressive as ever! It has a wonderfully rich nose of pastry dough, caramel and golden apples. On the palate, there are the savory notes that you expect from Pinot Meunier but, they are balanced and delicious. This wine is a tribute to the late Rene Collard and a beautifully done one at that.

Sub-Region:

Champagne

- The French region of Champagne (comprised of the towns of Rheims, Epernay, and Ay) was the first region in the world to make sparkling wine in any quantity. Today, the name of the region is synonymous with the finest of all sparkling wines, and winemaking traditions of Champagne have become role models for sparkling wine producers, worldwide. Surprisingly, the region of Champagne is now responsible for only one bottle in 12 of all sparkling wine produced. Styles of champagne range from the basic brut (often blends of several vintages), single vintage champagnes, and rose. View our bestselling Champagne.
