Colares is an unusual growing region to say the least. Most people, even those who know something about Portuguese wine, know very little about the wines of this region. Perhaps the most interesting fact about Colares is that the indigenous Ramisco vines are pre-phylloxera and on their original root stock. Vineyards are located in sandy clay soil in the very windy, foggy atlantic climate close to Lisbon. Taste this wine and you will find the incredibly intense, pure red fruit flavors and fine overall balance to be arguably as compelling asthe quality of the ancient vines in this region. High in both acidity and tannin, these are wines for the long haul. Very cool stuff for those looking for all things obscure and traditional.
Below is a listing of the wine review scores we frequently reference in our notes. While these sources remain an excellent source of information, we always recommend that you trust your own palate. Scores in these publications often represent the personal taste of an individual critic, which may not always coincide with your own. We have a huge team of excellent wine professionals that can match wines you've had in the past with new arrivals that meet your flavor profile.
