Barbaresco. Pale ruby starting to open up. Very slow to show rich cherry fruit. Very concentrated and sweet attack, and same richness on the palate. Genuinely fruit driven with gripping tannin, but elegant finish. (6/ 2010)
Pure, exuding rose, cherry, raspberry and spice flavors matched to an elegant frame. Focused and linear, with raspy tannins dominating the finish. A touch dry in the end. Best from 2014 through 2021 (12/ 2011)
Castello di Verduno's village level Barbaresco actually comes from two of the most famous crus in the region, the Rabajà and Faset vineyards. Aged for 19 months in large Slavonian oak casks, seven months more than Barbaresco needs to legally be aged, which helps soften Nebbiolo's naturally big tannins. The results are a wine that's surprisingly approachable young, with briar fruit, currant, sandalwood and rose petal aromas and flavors. Ageable too.
