Inky ruby. Exotic perfume of candied dark berries, incense, licorice and star anise. Sappy, palate-staining blackberry and blueberry flavors show superb depth and focus, with zesty acidity providing back-end lift and cut. Gains sweetness with air and finishes with outstanding energy and length. (5/ 2012)
Only 166 cases were produced of this classic old vine Swan Zin from the Zeigler vineyard. It's got that signature black pepper, black raspberry/blackberry/pomegranate nose, and the palate explodes with ripe, juicy fruit with spicy complexity. There's ample fruit to be pleasurable young, but like the classic Swan Zins from the early 70’s, optimum ripeness in fruit and tannin--a mark of the 2007 vintage--makes this a worthy cellar candidate. Stored in the proper conditions, a Zinfandel of this caliber will age for decades.
