*Editors' Choice* Maybe it's the 100% certified organic grapes that make this wine so pure, or the fact that it never saw oak. Probably both. The fruit stands front and center, with flavors of lemons, limes, Asian pears, lemongrass and gooseberries. A superior Sauvignon Blanc, at a great price, but production unfortunately was less than 1,000 cases.
This is a crisp, aromatic, dry Sauvignon Blanc that shows fresh citrus aromas and lively acidity. The mid-palate shows surprising richness, too, which is credited to sur-lies ageing and the quality of the fruit itself - from a single vineyard in the lower eastern Howell Mountain district where berries are small and concentrated - as opposed to the influence of oak. As the wine opens, the aromas and flavors gain complexity, leading to a creamy, almost biscuity finish. An organic operation at all levels of production, Neal Family has been farming sustainably and implementing biodynamic practices since 1984. Their winery achieved organic certification by the CCOF (California Certified Organic Farmers) in 2009.
