Carmalized fruit like a peach preserve, with hints of grass, citrus and a beautiful flinty minerality overwhelm the nose of this '10 Sauvignon Blanc.

This is a fantastic Sancerre deal vintage after vintage. 2010 is a superb year for Loire whites and the Cherrier Fils Sancerre does not miss a beat. Great aromatics of citrus and herbs continue on the palate. Great mineral notes and a touch of acidity round out the finish.

While it is grown in most of the world's major wine regions, in my opinion the quintessential expression of the Sauvignon Blanc grape is to be found in the Loire Valley of France, in Sancerre. At $16.99, the 2010 Domaine Cherrier is both our best price available and a superb example of what the appellation has to offer. A powerfully aromatic nose of fresh herbs and blackcurrant bud gives way to ripe gooseberry and citrus notes on the palate. Very dry and crisp in style with mineral notes of gunflint and crushed stone. A wonderful introduction to Loire Valley Sauvignon Blanc at a price you can enjoy any night of the week.

I Love this little Sauvignon Blanc from Sancerre! Its full of fun and zippy acidity. It has a bit more fruit than your typical Sancerre, but its minerality and acid balance it nicely. Definitely one of the best value Sancerre's on the market!

I find it hard to believe how we can sell this Sancerre for only $16.99. But we can so please take advantage of this more than fair price and delightful white wine. Clean crisp and refreshing. Pair this wine with spicy noodle dishes or a citrus marinated halibut dish.

Citus aromas. Full on the palate. Tasty bright fruit - peach, citrus, and even a hint of melon. The touch of grassy flavors and pure Sauvignon fruit will give you a great idea of what the Sancerre appellation is all about.

This refreshing and delicious wine has lovely notes of citrus, peach, melon, herb and mineral that jump out of the glass. Probably the most fragrant French sauvignon blanc I have ever tasted.

Sauvignon Blanc

- One of the best known "international" varieties originally cultivated in France and considered the parent of, with Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon. Sauvignon's wonderfully distinctive aromatics generate some of wine's most colorful descriptors, among them "cat pee," herbaceous, grassy, citrusy the world over. In France, the apex of Sauvignon Blanc production is the Loire Valley, in the appellations of Sancerre and Pouilly-Fumé, where the terroir expresses itself most beautifully through the grape. Sauvignon Blanc is also the leading white grape varietal in Bordeaux, where it is paired with the fatter, richer Sémillon to varying degrees. Relatively easy to cultivate, though more suited to cool climates, Sauvignon Blanc has made inroads in Europe outside of France, especially in Northeastern Italy's Friuli and Alto Adige, but also on the Slovenian border. These lovely wines are often overshadowed by Sauvignon Blanc's achievements in the New World, namely New Zealand, South Africa and California. New Zealand's Sauvignon Blancs, more conspicuously fruity than most French examples, landed the small island nation on the world wine map in the late-1980s and 1990s. South African Sauvignons are one of the most successful international varieties produced in that country and are often quite elegant and affordable. In California, Robert Mondavi managed to, almost single-handedly, created a market for Sauvignon Blanc by renaming his oak-fermented version Fumé Blanc. While some wineries still use the name, California Sauvignon Blanc has secured its place in the California wine pantheon, particularly those from the Napa Valley. Washington State, Chile and Argentina also have considerable plantings of the grape.
