2008 Château Trillol Corbières

SKU #1075839

Owned by the Sichel family, Château Trillol is perched high up in the foothills of the Pyrenees at an altitude of 400 metres (1,312ft) in the AOC Corbières winegrowing region. The mysterious Cathar castles close by, with their thousand years of history, add to the majesty of this outstanding, unspoiled natural environment. This blend is composed of 38% Grenache, 34% Syrah, and 28% Carignan. The nose on this strapping red is expressive, firstly of fruit, then of spices with notes of Mediterranean herbs (thyme, rosemary and mint), after which discreet, elegant notes of tobacco and wood emerge. On the palate, the attack is generous, ample and silky, with a mid-palate that is dense and powerful yet mouth-filling. The finish is nevertheless soft and fruity, ending on a peppery note. The overall impression is one of a richly aromatic wine that is both up-front and subtle at the same time - pleasure guaranteed!

What a fantastic value for only $11. The nose is filled with spice, savory herbs, dried fruit and earthy aromas. The palate shows bright red fruit with more spice and earth. Nicely structured with good grip and acidity with a long finish of herbs and spice.
