One of the rising stars of the Languedoc, Jean Louis Denois makes exciting, world-class wines that nonetheless remain amazingly inexpensive. His vineyards sit in the very southwestern corner of France, at the foot of the Pyrenees, and include red, white and sparkling wines. All of the Denois wines are made from perilously low-yielding vines, and vinified with as little interference as possible. The Grande Cuvee rouge, an unusual blend of 50% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Malbec, and 10% Syrah, displays impeccable richness, however not at the expense of balance. Raspberry, dark chocolate, and hints of damson plum make this a lovely red to enjoy on its own, or as the perfect accompaniment to roast duck or grilled salmon. 14% abv.
