Did you know that the Duncan family, the folks who've been making Silver Oak's legendary Cabs for more than 30 years, are the same family behind Twomey? Knowing that, the obvious attention to detail and high quality fruit of Twomey's Napa Merlot makes a lot of sense. Mostly Merlot, with small amounts of Cabernet Franc (5%) and Cabernet Sauvignon (1%), from an excellent vintage, this wine is wonderfully expressive, with aromas of roasting coffee beans, bittersweet chocolate and black cherries. Savory and sweet on the palate, there's a hint of soy that complements the chocolate and berry fruit, gritty but integrated tannins and a firm core that suggests it would benefit from a little cellaring. Drinkable now with some air, this should continue to improve over the next decade.
