The 33-acre Ponzo Vineyard in California's Russian River Valley was planted in 1920, just before Prohibition. Fortunately the vines survived, because the cooler, milder weather of the valley, the dry-farmed vineyard and the sandy loam soils make for a concentrated but balanced Zin. Creamy raspberry fruit, earthy and white pepper spice combine to create a vivacious wine with fine tannins that's drinking well now and will continue to do so over the next decade.
