2009 Barber Cellars "Lo Scuro" Sonoma County Red Blend
*Editor's Choice* Lots of pepper and spice in this dry, briary red blend. Could be Zinfandel, except it’s not. The components are Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. A good value for a wine this complex and delicious.
Barber Cellars marries two of the greatest Sonoma County vineyards in this very unique California wine. It is 40% Cabernet Sauvignon and 20% Merlot from Gundlach Bundschu, one of the oldest family run vineyards in California, with 40% Sangiovese from Unti, a remarkable Dry Creek producer. The result is a very elegant and interesting wine. "Lo Scuro," or "the darkness" in Italian, is a rich and soft Super Tuscan-inspired red with deep and brooding flavors of dark cherry, plum, and toasted oak. Sangiovese dominates the palate and softens the wine, offering very delicate and lush tannins and notes of tomato, dust, and raspberry.
