This is Aubin Cellars' first Chardonnay release, and there were only 92 cases made, so don't dawdle. It comes from the low-yielding, 40-year-old Stuhlmuller Vineyard in the Alexander Valley, and was fermented in a large wooden cask before aging in 25% new French oak barrels for six months. The wine is wondefully layered, with tart pomelo and tropical fruit aromas and flavors complemented by rich leesiness and a hint of toast. This has great texture, viscosity, and forward fruit without being one-dimensional. A very fine first effort, indeed!
