2001 Siro Pacenti Brunello di Montalcino
**Top 100 Wines of 2006, #12** Pure fruit here with lots of currant and berry. Full-bodied, with loads of fruit and velvety tannins. Long and delicious. Needs time. Best after 2009.

Pacentiís mid-weight 2001 Brunello di Montalcino is made in a very similar style to the Rosso. A lively ruby, it opens with a finely nuanced, fresh nose, followed by a delicate core of ripe fruit that bursts onto the palate with exceptional elegance, purity and finesse. Silky, fine tannins frame the finish of this unforgettable, profound Brunello. Anticipated maturity: 2007-2019. (AG)

Deep, bright red. Exotic aromas of raspberry liqueur, roasted coffee and mocha. Lush, large-scaled, dense and sappy, with a compelling sweetness; really expands in the mouth. Perhaps a bit obvious and full-blown but sound acids give this wonderfully smooth, rich, fairly primary wine plenty of shape and sex appeal.
Gun flint and violets with a peppery finish. A well-balanced spicy Brunello with nice acidity, medium tannins and a good finish.
Intense black cherry, raspberry and vanilla are amplified by maple syrup, chestnut, dried red rose petal, exotic spice, plum, earth and mushroom. Supple, round and soft with a young, fresh finish and coffee cacao at the end.
