2008 Far Niente Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon
Shows the elegance and pedigree that this estate vineyard, in the heart of the Oakville bench, always shows. The tannins are sweet and ripe, and the wine brims with luscious blackberry, cassis and mocha flavors, accented with new oak that’s flashy, yet perfectly in keeping with the wine’s volume. Should slowly mature over the years.
A full-bodied red with lots of character, from spices such as cinnamon to grilled nuts. Plus plenty of fruit. Full-bodied, with velvety tannins and a long rich finish.
Wine & Spirits
It takes a day of air for this wine to fill out its structure, following a leaner path than many of its contemporaries. While not overly rich, it is luxurious, more juicy than jammy, with scents of cedar cooling down the fruit. Complexity should continue to develop as the structure mellows with age, layering herbal scents of tobacco with anise, black olive and red currant in a firm, elegant balance.

Bright ruby-red. Aromatic nose combines cherry, currant, chocolate, flowers and fresh herbs lifted by a note of spearmint oil. The juicy palate adds some tobacco and resiny spices to the mix, with a peppery quality contributing energy. The dusty, firm-edged tannins reminded me a bit of 2006, but this has better fruit.
