From the very tiny appellation of Clairette de Bellegarde, their terrific 2010 is 100% Clairette, tank-fermented and aged. A crisp, perfumed wine with lots of flowery notes intermixed with white citrus and a hint of nectarine, it is medium-bodied, zesty, and a totally delightful example of a dry white and of Clairette’s potential. Drink it over the next several years. (10/ 2011)
The appellation is pretty obscure, but this AOC Clairette de Bellegarde is a wonderful introduction to the the grape Clairette. At Mas Carlot the grapes are picked by hand and the bunches put through a strict selection process. Fermentation is carried out at cool temperatures and without any oak influence. This is a single-variety wine boasting a lovely pale yellow color and aromas of orange blossom and honey. The attack is fleshy, leading into plush but very clean flavor profile. Delicious! 13.5% abv.
