2007 Hess Collection Mt. Veeder Cabernet Sauvignon
Always an underestimated wine, this 2007 from Hess Collection is a beautiful Cabernet. It's dry and balanced, and the blackberry and currant flavors have a pleasing earthiness. That old cliché, 'food friendly,' definitely applies.
Bordeaux-like in its aroma, structure, weight and range of flavors, this is tight, with cedary cigar box and tobacco scents. Dry and savory, with dried currant, mineral and gravel notes, ending with subtle flavor nuances. Drink now through 2022.
Elements of currants and ripe cherries lead the way in the moderately rich, herb-accented aromas here and similarly take the lead role on the palate of this solid, still fairly sturdy young Cabernet. The wine's tannins close in at the end and presently make for an abrupt and slightly pucker finish, but its stuffing and structure are right on target. Five years of age will be well rewarded.
