Grant is one of the few remaining independent bodegas in El Puerto de Santa Maria, indeed one of the few remaining independent bodegas in all of the Sherry triangle. El Puerto is historically an area for almacenistas, producers who sell their stocks to the larger bodegas, which is exactly what Grant had done since the bodega's founding in 1824 until quite recently. These Finos are very distinctive: vinous, expressive, and surprisingly minimally marked by salty, flor flavors. Instead, there is a fresh, fruity quality and a slightly resinous, anise like edge to the wine. This is possibly due to a shorter period of ageing in solera. Anyone who is curious to explore the differences amongs Fino style Sherries really ought to include this amongst their selections; the wine is unique and a real treat. (Joe Manekin, K&L Sherry Buyer)
