There's wonderful intensity to the nose, with blackberry and blueberry. Full-bodied, with a solid palate of ripe fruit and firm, chewy tannins. This is not giving that much on the palate, but the rich texture and structure suggest an outstanding riserva. Best after 2012. 500 cases made. (6/ 2010)
The 2004 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva Gli Angeli emerges from the glass with sensual red berries, sweet spices and flowers. The wine’s richness and density are impressive, while the French oak adds an extra dimension of volume and spiciness that follows through to the round, caressing finish. The Riserva undergoes malolactic fermentation in oak and is aged in a combination of 50 and 100-hectoliter barrels. It is a terrific effort from La Gerla. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2026. (4/ 2010)
Riserva gli Angeli is a beautiful Brunello with plump richness and long-lasting flavors of red fruit, exotic spice, leather and tobacco. Thanks to excellent growing conditions, this lucky vintage shows wonderfully rich texture in the mouth. (6/ 2010)
