This California Cab, mostly from Mendocino-grown fruit, is as inviting as a cool pool on a hot day with its vanilla cherry cola, red and black pepper aromas. Then it makes a big splash with layers of cherry, blackberry and blueberry fruit, dark chocolate shavings, pipe tobacco, pepper and Asian spice. Production is down drastically, since much of the fruit grown for this wine had to be discarded because of smoke taint from the year's fires, but what's left is nothing short of fun, drinkable red wine for a Tuesday night.
