A well-made wine, showing lots of terroir in the mineral-infused blackberry, black currant, chocolate and anise flavors. The tannins are structurally superb, while the finish is dry and complex. A very fine wine that should gather momentum for at least a decade. (6/ 2011)
The most mannerly of the three Terra Valentine offerings and one whose pieces are all fit seamlessly together, the Wurtele Vineyard bottling delivers a good sense of lightly loamy, ripe-currant fruit in a supple, not-too-tannic package. It is weighty without being tough and looks good to grow for four or five years even if a comparatively tasty Cabernet right now. (4/ 2011)
