Whoa, this is one meaty wine. Quite literally. Aromas suggest braised meat, as well as some mixed red and dark fruits, more dried than fresh. There is more meaty goodness on the palate, as well as dried cherries, very good acidity and minerality. The mid-palate of this wine is so sumptuous and well put together, and despite its richness there is good acidity given the cooler 2002 vintage, which really ties the wine together. This would be yet another example of why a so called "challenging" vintage should never discourage you from trying what can be a compelling wine. This Ribera represents awesome quality for the money, and would be a real eye opener for anyone who enjoys drinking their Bordeaux, Cab or Rhone wines with a decade or more of bottle age.
