 Attractive nose with animal notes, mint and dark fruit. Wonderful freshness at the beginning of the palate and builds up with a huge structure and multilayered texture. Long and very classy. Great potential but needs a couple of years to soften up the tannins. Best wine for a long time. Try after 2016.  (2/ 2013)

 Dense and slightly chewy in style, with a strong briary edge to the warm currant confiture and steeped black cherry fruit. A strong roasted alder note on the finish keeps the grippy feel going. This may ultimately lack finesse in the end, even after cellaring, but has some guts and character for sure. Best from 2015 through 2026.  (3/ 2013)

 Very dark crimson. There is freshness on the nose. Earl Grey tea aromas. One of the lighter St-Émilions but graceful and well balanced. Very racy. Almost angular on the finish but distinctive. Not for those who seek weight!  (4/ 2011)

Cabernet Sauvignon and Blends

- Cabernet Sauvignon has come a long way from its role as a blending varietal, however dominant, in the wines of Bordeaux. Today it is the most planted red varietal in the world. Identified as a descendent of Cabernet Franc and Sauvignon Blanc, the late-ripening Cabernet Sauvignon needs to be planted in warmer climates to fully ripen. Its small berries can easily be identified for their distinctive blue color, thick skins and high tannins. And while the varietal has its own definitive characteristics: green pepper-like aromas and black currant flavors among them, it is perhaps most prized for its ability to convey terroir, vintage and winemaking. A relatively new varietal, Cabernet Sauvignon started making inroads into the wines of the Médoc and Graves in the late-18th century.
