2010 Château Viranel "Tradition" Coteaux du Languedoc Blanc (Previously $13)

SKU #1066507

This offers a fruity, fresh and delicate nose dominated by citrus, lifted by notes of white flowers and apricot. The taste is nearly astonishing with its balance and harmony. The finish is long and mineral with great finesse. The two very different areas where white Grenache grow give this wine great balance, a blend of richness and freshness, fruit and minerality. 80% Grenache Blanc, 15% Roussanne and 5% Bourboulenc.

A most unusual wine- apricot, tart green apples and honeysuckle on the nose would lead you to think that this wine was going to be sweet... mais non! Crisp and refreshing on the palate, hints of that same green apple and apricot, but wonderfully savory and solid for a blanc. I enjoyed this with a smoked mozzarella & goat cheese chicken quesadilla with an apricot thyme sauce. A really great wine for a warm summer twilight evening on the patio...

This charming Southern French blend of Grenache Blanc, Roussanne, and a little Bourboulenc opens with a highly aromatic nose of scented flowers and just-ripe stone fruits. The palate is delightfully fresh, with touches of the exotic (tangerine, ginger) interlaced with a delicate minerality and finely woven acid. This has a nice fleshiness to it that makes it quite food-friendly and versatile. You could enjoy this with many different dishes, from a salad of fresh arugula with peaches, almonds, and goat cheese, to baked clams, roast chicken, or grilled herbed pork.

Excellent $10 Rhone white blend from K&L. 80% Grenache Blanc, 15% Roussanne and 5% Bourboulenc. Very fragrant nose of honeysuckle, orange blossom. Wonderful acidity & minerality in mouth.

This interesting wine has inviting floral and stone fruit aromas but unfortunately a bitter taste overwhelms its subtle mineral and citrus flavors.

Recommended by a KL staffer, this wine was shared with friends during Friday evening BBQ. It was a very pleasant surprise. Tip of the hat to the Redwood City staff. We drank it with a vegetable appetizer platter of home grown garden greens, tomatoes, broccoli and hummus, drizzled with a light olive virgin oil.
