We love bright, complex and affordable reds coming out of the Pacific Northwest, like this red hot beauty from Tamarack Cellars. Their Firehouse Red combines fruit from all over the Columbia Valley, from the Horse Heaven Hills to Walla Walla to the Rattlesnake HIlls, Red Mountain and Wahluke Slope, and it's a unique combination of grapes, too, showing the potential of the region for a wide selection of varietals. This vintage deftly belnds Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Malbec, Sangiovese, Zinfandel, Petit Verdot and Carmenere and aged is in a combination of French, American and a few Hungarian oak barrles for 16 months. Balanced and fresh, with a lush midpalate, fresh raspberry fruit, a turn of peppery spice and a little espresso, this wine is at home at the table with everything from grilled flatbread pizza to chicken roasted under a brick.
Below is a listing of the wine review scores we frequently reference in our notes. While these sources remain an excellent source of information, we always recommend that you trust your own palate. Scores in these publications often represent the personal taste of an individual critic, which may not always coincide with your own.
