Jim McEwan's Celtic Heartland series is one of the most anticipated releases every year. 2011's bottles live up to the hype completely, as the barrel selections are amazing and the cask enhancements only bring out further complexity in the whiskies. This 33 year old Glenlivet was finished in Chateau d' Yquem casks to bring out extra richness in the malt. The flavors are very grainy on the entry, but then morph into juicy lemon with flowers before the vanilla kicks in on the mid palate. The finish becomes oily and the flavors softly float away into the back of the palate. Insane. Insanely good. -David Driscoll, K&L Spirits Buyer
