Jim McEwan's Celtic Heartland series is one of the most anticipated releases every year. 2011's bottles live up to the hype completely, as the barrel selections are amazing and the cask enhancements only bring out further complexity in the whiskies. The Caol Ila 30 year has been further matured in Italian Amarone casks delivers big time chewy fruits on the entry, then smoke and sweet grains. The mid-palate morphs into a roasted nut flavor, then supple and smooth on the finish. Impeccibly balanced all the way through.
