Williams & Humbert "Jalifa" Amontillado VORS Jerez
Golden brown in color, with smooth, almondy aromas along with apricot, cinnamon and toffee. The palate is full, round, smooth and satisfying, with a fine blend of weight, acidity and prime Sherry flavors. Overall this is a rich, heady style of dry Amontillado that finishes long and secure.
Wine & Spirits
The body of this wine is simply tremendous, suffusing the palate with flavors of roasted hazelnuts and salted almonds tinged with a bit of caramel and chestnuts. A wine of this size needs well-aged cheese, like manchego viejo.
This is our most economical VORS Sherry, which in a field of great values arguably makes it one of the very best values in our entire wine and spirits inventory. Think of it this way: can you imagine a guaranteed-to-be-special thirty year old red or white table wine for $60, or (even less likely)a 30 year old single malt for $60? By definition, the VORS category is the rarest type of Sherry, requiring that the average age of wine in the solera be 30 years, though it is often 40 years or older. Imagine all of the salty tang, nutty complexity and hints of dried fruits in your favorite dry Amontillado, and then factor in a richer texture, more concentration and layered nuances of flavor. That is what the Don Jalisco Amontillado VORS is all about. Classic, compelling bone dry Amontillado from a storied Sherry bodega. (Joe Manekin, K&L Sherry Buyer)
