2005 Croix De Gay, Pomerol
Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
This is one of the finest efforts to yet emerge from this estate located on the plateau of Pomerol. A combination of 95% Merlot and 5% Cabernet Franc, it tips the scales at nearly 14% alcohol. Exhibiting a deep ruby/purple hue as well as a sweet bouquet of loamy soil, blueberries, cherries, plums, and mocha, it possesses lovely ripeness, savory elegance, purity, and overall balance. Enjoy it over the next 15 years.
Pale. Chocolate, low key on the nose but with real follow-through on the palate. Delicate and rewarding and a great food wine. Highest scoring wine so far!
Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar
Medium red-ruby. Dark berries, licorice, underbrush and smoky oak on the inviting nose, plus a whiff of leather. Easygoing and sweet, with pliant flavors of black cherry, dark berries and smoky underbrush. Finishes with round, soft tannins and subtle length. Not a gripping style, but very typical Pomerol Merlot.
